Help - highlighted hair did not suit me, tried dyeing it back to brown and went too dark!!?

hello - please no-one laugh!!

two days ago i had brown hair (medium dark) with a couple of grey hairs but nothing to worry about. I am off to Florida in 8 days so had booked to have some highlights but they really did not suit me so i used to l'oreal colour experte to dark it to what i thought was my natural colour. however when i dried it it is almost black and probably looks worse!

I went on the l'oreal website and it says that it is ok to use the feria range. My question is does anyone think this is a good idea or will my hair dry out completely? Before two days ago it was in really good condition and never dyed!

give it a couple days the color should lighten up.the same thing happened to me but after a couple days the color lightened up
