Highlighting hair black?

i just dyed my hair a reddish color and i was wondering if it'd hurt to go ahead and put black highlights in it..i'm going to be using dye because i don't think they actually make black highlights...if they do i've never seen them..anyways i was just wondering if it'd be alright or do i need to wait some amount of time before doing it?

unless you are using bleach, hair color does not "hurt" when you put it on. Doing it right after you dye your hair red wouldn't matter. But, be careful dying your hair black. It gets on your skin and is messy. Use Vaseline on your forehead where your hair line starts and maybe even on your part to make sure it doesn't dye the skin. Also, be VERY careful with the highlights, it will dye any surrounding hair it touches and will look clumpy and weird if you don't do it right. Also, black is the hardest color to get back out and is the most expensive to color correct. So unless you are REALLY good at doing highlights I wouldn't recommend it. Because if you had the money to have it corrected, you should just have it done in the salon first, since that would be MUCH cheaper.

Also, waiting a month or two is ridiculous. I get my hair bleached every three weeks, and it's fine. Most people with non-natural hair get it done once a month. As long as you use a good damage control regimine it doesn't matter how often you get it done. Plus, color doesn't damage your hair nearly as much as bleach does.

you may want to consult with the company of the haircolor you are using or a hairdresser that specializes in color.

It would be bad to dye your hair again after you just did it all red. It'd damage it so much. Wait a month or two.

actually they would be considered lowlights. and highlighting/lowlighting is not a special kind of haircolor, it is the term used when it is applied to only small parts of your hair. go ahead and use the black haircolor, i have had red with black chunks, i really liked it!

Did you color it yourself? What is your natural hair color? Yes, its perfectly fine to put black lowlights in, but, keep in mind, that when you want that color out of your hair, it'll be @#*! to get out!

actually.. your hair.. being damaged from the red.. will absorb more of the black.. so make sure you like it .. cause you will have the black for a long time!!

Highlighting hair black?

I did in my daughters hair. I used "Nice %26amp; Easy" from Wal-Mart, I sectioned it w/ ponytails, then took the dye and put it on strip by strip. Very easy. But w/ black be carefull, it can get on hair you dont want it to. So make the llittle ponytails -very small. You can wrap them with tinfoil after you do each one..You can have it all done in less than 30 min,, but work fast... Good luck,,,

I would do some deep conditioning for a few days before adding more color.

High-lights are when you lighten on darker hair, lo-lights are when you go darker on hair that is lighter. What you are looking for is called lo-lights.

I would do a semi-permanent lo-light instead of permanent. You already used permanent and you will do nothing but cause dryness %26amp; damage to your hair. With semi-permanent you deposit color (which is what you do when you do darker) You do not need lift which is what a permanent color does. Semi-permanent doesn't contain the harsh chemicals that a permanent color does and you can color your hair more often w/ a semi-perm.

Don't use over-the-counter colors, they contain harsh chemicals and usually alway have a 40 vol. developer which is very strong %26amp; damaging. Oh, and alot of them are metallic dyes which are very damaging. Go to Sallys Beauty Supply and have them find you a good semi-permanent color.

Good Luck,

maybe highlight it with a darkish black-brown... but don't overdo it ;) good luck!

Highlighting hair black?

you should wait to highlight your hair. you dont want to take out all the moisture and fry it. wait a few days before you do anything else. and when u put in black highlights use a highlighting cap then go from there for best results. and when u highlight your hair with black... this is just something to expect... if u try dyeing it a lighter color than the black wont change, black hair dye is very hard to get out.
