Touching up roots on lightened and highlighted hair - how is it done?

my hair is a med-dark brown. i had it lightened to a light brown with dark blonde and light blonde highlights but my darker roots are growing back in. how would my stylist touch up my roots if i want to keep my highlights? i am also thinking of adding some more light blonde highlights to my hair. any advice? (i do not want to go dark)

if you are in the uk, you ask for a half head of high lights and they do the same as before but they only do the top half of your head where the regrowth is.....any decent hairdresser keeps notes of what colours they put on you before. if you want some extra blondes then they will do this too.

i would quarter the head in 4 sections and then apply color to the roots... in small strands at a time.... then after that i woulkd rinse and then add the highlights ..very simple...

I just ask for a T section of highlights when my roots start coming through.
